A Viagra-Free Sex Life.

Viagra (sildenafil), is one of the most over hyped, misused, and misunderstood drugs in the history of pharmaceuticals.  Viagra was originally created as a drug for high blood pressure, but researchers noticed that the men taking it were reporting that it had cured their impotence.  It works by relaxing the smooth muscle cells that line the penile arteries.

In the initial test of the drug, only relatively healthy men were used, so caution should be taken in using this drug by first consulting a medical guru.   Sildenafil can also cause a condition called priapism, where the erection stays for a long period of time.  Priapism is very painful and can cause permanent impotence.

If you'd like a great, Viagra-free sex life, the first step is good food, good vitamins, regular exercise, and to remember that a little bit of tenderness goes a long way with your partner.  Conversely, the herb ginkgo biloba isn't just great for improving blood flow to the brain and improving memory, it improves blood flow everywhere -- wink, wink.

Other natural ways to get your sex on:  Yohimbine, Ginseng, Ashwagandha, and Arginine.

Finally, look at the drugs you are taking now to see if one might be affecting your libido.  Drugs that can cause impotence range from antidepressants to estrogen.  Especially look out for the following:

Antibiotics
Anticholinergics (used for ulcers and other gastrointestinal disorders).
Antidepressants
Antihsitamines
Appetite suppressants
H2 blockers such as Tagamet, Pepcid, and Zantac
Many drugs used to treat heart disease, including beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers.
Painkillers such as indomethacin, naproxen, and naltrexone
Sedatives, tranquilizers, sleeping pills
